The Drake Smith Jr. Quintet August 13th Papacelle Ristorante Avon CT

The Drake Smith Jr. Quintet takes the stage at Papacelle Summers on the Patio Music Series on Thursday, August 13th. Jazz trombonist Drake Smith Jr. is causing a sensation in the jazz community. Just turning 18, Drake Jr. has played with jazz trombone legends Eddie Bert, Steve Davis and Bill Watrous. He also has played with Jan & Dean and the Surf City All-Stars, 60s folk rock duo Chad and Jeremy and The Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Recently he had his recording debut on Al Thompson's album "City Mainstream," released on the Alcalgar label. Marshall McDonald, lead alto saxophonist for the Count Basie Orchestra, says, "Drake Smith Jr. has a maturity and thoughtfulness of playing well beyond his years. Keep an eye on this young lion. This kid is the future of jazz." This will be the last chance to see Drake perform before he heads off to LA to study jazz trombone with Bill Watrous at USC.
